This week, the turn of Fundraising Friday Star goes to Gabrielle. Gabrielle headed out to Cambodia on her expedition yesterday – so her fundraising efforts definitely paid off! Have a read about all the effort she went to, to get herself on her expedition…
I was always VERY excited about the opportunity to visit Cambodia and to work with local communities – now it’s only a week away!
I have visited Cambodia before and seen first-hand some of the hardship, particularly for the children, so I cannot wait to get over there to work in the local communities. I really want to make a difference for people living in poverty and to be directly involved. I have a feeling this will be the start of many trips volunteering overseas for me!
My first fundraising event was a sausage sizzle at the local Coles store, with a few friends, in 44-degree heat!! It wasn’t the best conditions, but Coles generously donated the soft drinks and we received some generous donations. We managed to raise $277 which was an excellent start to our fundraising target.
I have also been busily selling Cadbury Chocolate Boxes in the boarding house at my school. I’ve also been doing some babysitting and helping out at my mum’s work doing some filing.
Our school recently put on a very successful school concert which I participated in, and there was a raffle and sausage sizzle, which raised additional funds for our group.
I’m excited to be raising awareness about conditions in Cambodia and getting stuck in and helping with the project work, it has been really amazing getting the community, particularly within the boarding house at school, engaged in my fundraising journey.
I am on the home stretch now… But I’m not stopping – I am still busily selling chocolates to ensure I meet my fundraising target.
Bring on Cambodia!
